when you try to download anything norton
pops up with a broncos info stealer

I doubt that very highly!
But..
Sorry you had problems with the site.
My web pages they are clean so what problems you experienced where scripts and ads injected by tripod since it is a free hosting site and does place ads and or popups.
Again sorry for the bad experience but you need to make a complaint to tripod for their bad coding.
