tube8.com : tube8.com gave me malware

I got a bad malware infection from TUBE8.COM on 10 Dec 2009: when I clicked on a free movie link, I got multiple pop-ups saying I had multiple viruses on my machine (not true). These pop-ups imitated Windows Internet Security and demanded that I download “antivirus” programs called “Internet Security 2010” and “Anti-Virus Pro”, etc. From that point on I was barely able to use my machine due to nearly endless similar pop-ups. I've been using Norton AV for years and was running Norton 360 version 2.5.05 - which DID NOT PROTECT MY SYSTEM in this case. I called Norton/Symantec and they said I needed urgently to pay them $139.99 to clean up my machine online – which I declined to do. After numerous unsuccessful efforts to find and delete the infected files, I did several hours of online research form another machine and learned that all I needed was to download MALWAREBYTES freeware to my machine from malwarebytes.org and run it. I cannot overstate what a terrific bargain malwarebytes is. It completely cleaned up my machine and removed numerous infected files and registry infections including "rouge.internetsecurity2010", “Trojan.downloader”, “hijack.wallpaper”, “adware.agent.n”, “Trojan.fakealert”, “Trojan.dropper”, “hijack.taskmanager”, hijack.displayproperties”, “hijack.userinit”, etc. Though it was entirely up to date, Norton DID NOT PRVENT these from being installed on my machine and could not detect any of them after they were installed. Thank goodness for MALWAREBYTES!!! (I’m looking to find a better AV, as this experience really soured me on Norton.)
